  • Hey fathead! The brain is the fattiest organ in the body, hovering in at around 60% fat.

  • Anti-climb paint was developed as a non-drying, greasy security coating. It never fully hardens and lasts over three years. It's used to make any surface it's applied to nearly impossible to climb and to deter access. (Hmmm...where could this be used...?? Down South somewhere close to the border??)

  • Cube Shaped Watermelons are popular in Japan and were designed to fit compactly in refrigerators without rolling out. Unfortunately, they're expensive - about $83 apiece!)

  • The Norwegian flag contains six other flags within its design: France, Indonesia, Poland, Netherlands, Thailand and Finland

  • No Nail Church There is a church in Norway that was built over 800 years ago without a single iron nail anywhere. It's called the Borgund Stave Church and is made entirely from wood that is held together with a tongue and groove construction.

  • Subaru got its name from the star cluster Pleiades, which is also known as the Seven Stars.

  • Bread The popular soft-rock band from the 70's gave a LOT of thought before coming up with the name of their band. They got stuck in traffic behind a Wonder Bread truck and said, "There ya go."

  • 13 Ever wonder why the number 13 frightens so many people? It goes back to a Norse myth. Twelve gods decided to have a dinner party in Valhalla. A party crasher (Loki) got the god of darkness (Hoder) to shoot the god of joy (Balder). Then all hell broke loose and the earth was plunged into darkness. Sort of disturbs me that 13 is Taylor Swift's favorite number (she was born Dec 13, turned 13 on Friday the 13th, debut album went gold in 13 weeks, number one hit single "Our Song" has a 13-second intro and she's normally seated in the 13th row, sear or section at award shows. But I digress...)

  • BOMBS AWAY - In February 1958, a B-47 bomber had a mid-air collision with an F-86 fighter jet off the coast of Georgia. The bomber was carrying a Mark 15 nuclear bomb at the time! The bomb was jettisoned into the waters off Tybee Island, Georgia to prevent it from exploding when the B-47 crashed. It was a 7,600-pound hydrogen bomb and was never recovered despite extensive searches.

  • Mpemba Effect - Under certain conditions, hot water will freeze faster than cold water and nobody knew why for centuries. In 2017, two independent groups came up with a theoretical explanation for it, but it hurt my head trying to understand it. Google it for yourself if you're interested.

  • Radio and TV stations use either a "K" or "W" as the start of their call signs Stations east of the Mississippi River start with W and stations west of the Mississippi start with a K. There are a few exceptions for stations that were already broadcasting, but other than that, it's pretty true to form.

  • 64 Days in a Cessna - A world endurance record that's never been beaten. On December 4th, 1958, Robert Timm and John Wayne Cook climbed into a slightly modified four-seat Cessna 172 at McCarran Field Las Vegas and flew for sixty-four days, twenty-two hours and nineteen minutes. I know what you're thinking. Bullsh*t. But it's true and an amazing story. Read the whole thing here: The amazing 64-day flight endurance record of Las Vegas's Hacienda

  • A U.S. President Kept an Alligator in the White House - John Quincy Adams received a pet alligator and kept it in the White House bathtub. (this doesn't surprise me - there are plenty of reptiles in Congress too). As a matter of fact, a number of strange animals have lived at the White House over time:

  • Rebecca the Raccoon - Calvin Coolidge

  • Various ponies - Franklin D. Roosevelt

  • Poll the Parrot - Andrew Jackson

  • Pauline the Cow - William Taft

  • Two tiger cubs - Martin Van Buren

  • Several sheep - Woodrow Wilson

  • Josiah the Badger - Theodore Roosevelt

  • Macaroni the Pony - John Kennedy
