As the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton and surrounding Lehigh Valley area grows and expands, so do the events and opportunities to see shows, tree lightings, holiday displays and events and parties.


We've compiled a list from various sources of things to do and see in the area over the Christmas and holiday season:


  • Camelback Ski Resort and Blue Mountain Resort have opened their winter seasons for skiing, snow tubing and more this week.


  • Christmas Putz: A retelling of the story of Christ’s birth through narration and music. 6-8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat.; noon-3 p.m. Sun. Dec. 1-22. Edgeboro Moravian Church, 645 Hamilton Ave., Bethlehem. 610-866-8793.

  • Bach Choir Christmas Concerts: Christmastime in Leipzig, a vivid recreation of Advent and Christmas in Bach’s own city, with cantatas including Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and Unser Mund sei voll Lachens, carols, and more. 4 p.m. Dec. 13, Egner Chapel, Muhlenberg College, Allentown; 4 p.m. Dec. 14, First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem. bach.org.

  • 66th Annual Christmas Peace Pilgrimage: Pilgrimage participants meet at the parking lot at 529 E. Broad Street, Bethlehem by 10:15 a.m. Dec. 13; buses leave at 10:45 a.m. Buses transport pilgrims to Nazareth Moravian Church on Center Square where the Pilgrimage begins. Anyone can join at any point along the way. Support vehicles assist those not able to walk the entire route. The Pilgrimage follows PA 191 and proceeds to downtown Bethlehem for caroling in Payrow Plaza at the Bethlehem Public Library. Light meal and fellowship 5:30 p.m. at Christ United Church of Christ, Market & Center Streets, Bethlehem.


  • Bethlehem Live Nativity Pageant: Tells the story of Jesus’ birth with live camels, horses, barnyard creatures and actors. 1:45 p.m. Dec. 13-14. Bethlehem Rose Garden Band Shell, Eighth Avenue and Union Boulevard.


  • Concert of Orthodox Hymns and Christmas Carols: Presented by the a cappella choir. 3:30 p.m. Dec. 14. St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 980 Bridle Path Road, Bethlehem. 610-867-0402, stnicholasoca.org.

  • Holiday Pops: Allentown Symphony Orchestra presents carols, sing-a-longs, plus special guest artists, dancers, spotlight high school chorus, and Santa, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 20. Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. 6th St., Allentown. 610-432-6715, millersymphonyhall.org.


  • Tree of Lights: a musical celebration of Christ’s birth presented by MunOpCo music Theatre, 1 p.m., 7 p.m. Dec. 13, Northampton Community College Lipkin Theatre, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem. $20. Munopco.org.


  • Peepsfest: The sweet celebration returns 3-6 p.m. Dec. 30-31 to the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem, with indoor and outdoor ticketed format and family-friendly activities. The two-day festival will feature live musical performances, activities, sampling stations and Chick Drop. The Chick, weighing 400 pounds and standing 4 feet and 9 inches tall, will descend for the countdown to the New Year 5:35 p.m. on both days, followed by a display of fireworks.
