Profile of an Artist

Some people are naturally mechanical, others a knack for numbers or cooking, some can write or have musical abilities. And some, like my friend, Curtis are artists.
Curt Curran recently retired after a career in telecommunications as well as a stint in the Navy. Our paths ran parallel in that regard, and I've considered him a friend for several years.

Curt discovered his love and skills for drawing as a youngster. He drew ideas from wherever he saw; copying characters from comics, vases, trees, whatever caught his eye. While he never had any formal training beyond a high school art class, he would draw, paint or sketch as a release that provided him balance and peace in his life. Now in retirement, he hopes to be doing more of what he loves.
I asked Curt to share some of his art for this post. It's a combination of sketches, calligraphy and painted wooden eggs. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

We wish Curtis a very happy retirement and hope to see more of his artwork in future posts.

You have to respect and gaze in awe at the talent that some people have been blessed with. I have literally ZERO artistic ability. One of my Core requirements in undergrad school was Basic Etching. I forgot to remove my etched plate from the acid bath anticipating a poor grade. The error actually produced a rather unique abstract that looked like a shucked clam. It prompted Professor Allison to give me a B for originality! Didn't have the heart to tell him how it happened. LOL
