There's a Doctor in the House!

Penn State College of Medicine held its 56th commencement ceremony this past weekend at Hersey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

If you follow our posts regularly, you may remember that our daughter-in-law, Ali, was a med student at Penn State College of Medicine. Ali went through the Match Day process back in March and was accepted into the Plastic Surgery residency program at University of Illinois Chicago, her first choice! She will be beginning her surgical residency program in Chicago in a few weeks.

Saturday was the culmination of her med school program with the commencement ceremony at Hershey and we're all very proud of her achievement and hard work. We're claiming family bragging rights!

Additionally, if becoming a doctor wasn't enough, Ali was also honored at the Dean's Graduation Awards Ceremony and inducted into the very prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. AOA honors top students that foster excellence in medicine, leadership, research and service. The program was founded in 1902 and now has over 125 chapters. It's mission statement embodies "the belief that in the profession of medicine, we will improve care for all patients by recognizing high educational achievement, honoring gifted teaching, encouraging the development of leaders in academia and the community, supporting the ideals of humanism and promoting service to others."

Saturday's commencement program was impressive. From the opening remarks and speeches to the recessional, it was easy to see the level of intellect and the degree of hard work put in by these healthcare professionals.

As Ali and our son, Rob get ready to pack for Chicago, we wish them the very best in this next chapter of their lives. We're very proud of both of them.
