A friend told me about Haymakers for Hope a couple of years ago. Think Fight Club meets Cancer Charity and you're close to what this 501(c)3 organization is all about. For close to 15 years now, ordinary people like Bill from accounting, Suzy the CEO, Mike, your mailperson and Tyler, the guy who delivers your Grubhub order has been participating in raising literally MILLIONS of dollars for cancer-related causes in either approved cancer-focused organizations of their choice or direct their fundraising efforts toward one of Haymakers for Hope's primary beneficiaries.
Since the first brawl in 2011, over $35 Million dollars has been raised by over 1,400 alumni providing over 200 organizations with 100% of monies raised for cancer research and causes. There have been over 54 boxing events organized since its inception in 2011 and all through the efforts of volunteers.
So, what's a haymaker? In boxing jargon, it's considered a wild powerful punch at your opponent. Co-founder of Haymakers for Hope, Julie Anne Kelly, herself a cancer survivor, wanted to do her part to "KO cancer" and support cancer research, so she helped found an impactful, once-in-a-lifetime experience for ordinary people like you and I to commit to a four month training program that transforms regular folks into badass amateur boxers that allows them to enter the ring with other amateurs to raise money for cancer research, care, awareness and survivorship.
Interested in the idea of getting in shape and perhaps boxing for a good cause? Glide over to haymakersforhope.org and check out the upcoming events. Not interested in getting physical with body blows? Haymakers for Hope is also sponsoring over 17 other opportunities to raise money for cancer including running events and polar plunges across the globe from as faraway places as Cape Town, South Africa, Berlin, Germany, Tokyo, Japan, London, England and Copenhagen, Demark.
You can participate, donate, sponsor an amateur athlete in training or even support cancer research through the purchase of a t-shirt or sweatshirt at the Haymakers-for-Hope store at https://www.streakersports.com/collections/haymakers-for-hope.
Cancer is the second largest cause of death throughout the world (Cardiovascular is first) with close to 10 million victims annually. As we give thanks this holiday season, consider Haymakers for Hope as a great outlet to contribute to a worthy cause.
